His story is almost as poetic as it is unique. An all-round sporting wonderkind, Ponting was touted by former Australian great Rod Marsh to be the best teenage batsman he had ever seen. His declaration proved to be prophetic, when Ponting, still only 20 years old, fell agonisingly short of a Test century on debut and then went on to become the most prolific run scorer in the history of Australian Cricket.
